WHO WE ARE

OUR HISTORY

2011 marked the genesis of the Vancouver Sports Club and the team’s vision to contribute to the development of grass roots basketball in the Vancouver Mainland and the Fraser Valley areas of British Columbia.  The plan was to unite a passionate and accomplished group of like minded coaches who understand the value in investing time and knowledge in young players during their developmental stages. By 2012 Vancouver Sports club was running on all cylinders with a committed and experienced coaching staff, locations in various areas of the city and a powerful mandate to teach core basketball values that benefit the city’s youth on and off of the basketball court.

OUR MISSION

PROMOTING EXCELLENCE IN SPORT FOR YOUTH IN BC

Vancouver Sports Club is an incorporated not-for-profit youth sports association that offers children of all ages year-round opportunities to participate and enjoy the game of basketball in a supportive and fun community setting in the Lower Mainland.

Recognized for its success and leadership in the field of youth development, VSC promotes excellence in sport as a way of developing character and leadership skills, while encouraging excellence in academics. Here at VSC we provide an extended family to assist young people in becoming valuable contributors to their communities. VSC’s offers basketball training and development for youth beginning at the most formative stages of their learning and development through unparalleled access to exceptional experienced coaching and mentorship.

In addition to having extensive coaching experience, many of our coaches are young parents and educators who have competed and/or coached at the highest levels in the sport. This includes high school and university, to the Canadian National Team and professional leagues around the world. By offering select coaching to children beginning at the grassroots level, VSC will introduce and guide its members through the game of basketball, taking them far beyond the X’s & O’s of the sport.

VSC Policies

VSC Player Commitment Policy: No Dual Club Participation During Season

At Vancouver Sports Club (VSC), we are committed to providing a high-quality, athlete-centered experience that emphasizes team culture, player development, and long-term success. To maintain these standards, VSC athletes are not permitted to participate in other club basketball programs during the active VSC season.

Why This Policy Matters

1. Team Commitment and Cohesion

Our teams thrive on trust, consistency, and shared purpose. Dual club participation often results in scheduling conflicts and divided focus, which can disrupt team chemistry and limit the collective growth of the group.

2. Player Development and Injury Prevention

Our coaching staff carefully manages training intensity, competition, and recovery. Playing for multiple programs can lead to overuse injuries, fatigue, and conflicting coaching strategies—all of which can hinder a player’s progress and well-being.

3. Alignment of Coaching Philosophy

VSC provides a unified development model built on strong fundamentals, character, and a team-first mentality. Outside participation may introduce conflicting messages or styles of play, slowing development and creating confusion for the athlete.

4. Operational Efficiency

Practice plans, tournaments, and travel are organized with full-team participation in mind. When players split time between programs, it becomes increasingly difficult to execute team strategies and meet the demands of competition.

5. Equity and Fairness

All families commit to the same expectations when joining our program. Allowing some players to participate elsewhere during the season creates inconsistencies that can affect morale, trust, and the sense of fairness within the team.

Off-Season Participation

Vancouver Sports Club fully supports and encourages athletes to pursue off-season development through skills camps, training academies, and select showcase events.

At the conclusion of the VSC season, players are free to compete with other clubs or programs of their choosing. We recognize the value in broadening athletic experiences and support our athletes in exploring opportunities that align with their goals.

However, during the active VSC season, we expect all players to honour their commitment to the club by participating exclusively in VSC programming. This ensures consistency, team cohesion, and alignment with our development model.

No Refund Policy

At Vancouver Sports Club (VSC), we strive to deliver high-quality programming that supports player development, team success, and character growth. Program planning involves significant commitments in terms of facility rentals, tournament entries, apparel, staffing, and travel logistics. As such, VSC maintains a strict No Refund Policy once a player has committed to a team or training program.

Progressive Withdrawal Guidelines

While we are unable to offer full refunds under any circumstance, we recognize that unexpected family or personal situations may arise. In limited cases, and at the sole discretion of VSC leadership, a partial refund or credit may be considered based on the timeline below:

Tiered Refund Structure:

  • Before Season Start / First Team Practice
→ 75% of paid fees may be credited toward a future program or refunded (less administrative and uniform costs)
  • Weeks 1–2 of Team Activities
→ 50% credit only toward future programming; no cash refunds
  • After Week 2 or Once Tournament Play Begins
→ No refunds or credits issued, regardless of reason for withdrawal

Non-Refundable Costs

The following are non-refundable under any circumstance:

  • Tryout fees
  • Uniform costs
  • Travel deposits or bookings
  • Tournament or league entry fees
  • Missed practices, games, or training sessions due to illness, injury, travel, or personal commitments

Injury or Medical Withdrawal

If a season-ending injury occurs before the mid-point of the season, and with proper medical documentation, a partial credit may be issued for future use. Final decisions are made by VSC program directors and are not subject to appeal.

Exceptions and Discretion

All refund or credit decisions are at the sole discretion of the VSC administrative team. By registering for a VSC program, families acknowledge and agree to abide by this policy in full.
