Coaches, mentors and parents, we ask that you keep the conversation alive with your players through the month of February and beyond. Two possible questions you might want to engage your players in as discussion primers are:

1. What is the significance of having a community to be a part of?

2. Why is it important to know your history and that of others?

It’s a wrap! Jerome Randle and DaShaun Thomas’s first, and certainly not last, visit to Vancouver was met with huge success. Campers were exposed to another level of accountability on the court and were challenged to push themselves to their limits. Making a positive difference to those around them was an important theme that resonated throughout the camp. Thank you UNLMTED for the “Tune-Up”, as our athletes now move into the coming Fall with a refreshed outlook on what sport is all about! See you during Spring Break 2023!

Vancouver Sports Club bids farewell to Malcolm Tyl Vancouver Sports Club bids farewell to Malcolm Tyler, as he embarks on his basketball journey at Orangeville Prep in the coming days. It has been an absolute pleasure having Malcolm and his family a part of our VSC program, for his unwavering work ethic, combined with his love for the game, has been nothing but inspiring to us all.

As you open your next chapter Malcolm, consider these sage words from Tony Awards winner, André De Shields's (3 rules of longevity).

“1. Surround yourself with people, whose eyes light up when they see you coming…2. slowly is the fastest way to get to where you want to be…and 3. the top of one mountain, is the bottom of the next so keep climbing!”

Vancouver Sports Club and Canada Elite are excited Vancouver Sports Club and Canada Elite are excited to bring Jerome Randle and DaShaun Thomas (see below bio) to Vancouver to provide high level training and basketball instruction to athletes in preparation for the coming Fall season. The 2022 Basketball Canada Men's National Champion The 2022 Basketball Canada Men's National Championships held in Edmonton, AB proved to be an impressive showcase for our BC U15 & U17 athletes. Both teams played brilliantly throughout the tournament, leaving no doubt about the calibre of basketball being played in our province.

The U15 Boys made it to the championship game by defeating Team Alberta in the semifinals and going on to loose in a hard fought battle against a formidable Ontario team by a score of 90-68. The teams’ grit combined with their relentless efforts on both sides of the ball, was awesome to witness!

The talk of the tournament was certainly the unyielding pressure and uptempo style of play exhibited by the U17 BC squad. The team averaged 127 points per outing, with a record breaking performance versus Nova Scotia, scoring 60 points in the 2nd quarter, shooting 14 of 20 from 3 point range and tallying 159 points by the final whistle of the game. The team then went on to loose in the semi-finals to the eventual national champions, Team Quebec, who defeated Team Ontario, taking home the Nation Championship title. Team BC took home 3rd place honours, defeating Team Alberta in the Bronze medal match.

Congratulations and well done to all the coaches, players and parents who were able to be apart of the unique experiences of the 2022 Canadian National Championships. You have done us proud.

Also in competitive play this past weekend, three of the Vancouver Sports Club teams; VSC U12 Selects, VSC U13 Elite and VSC U14 Elite, participated in the James Johnson 1st Annual Invitational held in Auburn, Washington. These teams showed grit and played solid team ball throughout the event. Although these teams did not place in their respective divisions, they all gained the experience of competing at a higher level.

As proud as we are of the win/loss record amassed during the final vestiges of the 2022 summer season, we are even more inspired by the manner in which our teams have come together in their play and the support they showed for one another throughout the events.

Key Takeaways =
1. Strengthened Relationships
2. Character Development
3. Memories and the joy of playing this beautiful game of basketball.

Next up: The Canada Elite UAA 15U and 16U representatives will be heading to Chicago, IL on Monday, July 18 to participate in the National Under Armour Association Championships. Good luck, boys!
